Volunteer: Tour and Research Intern

This is a Community Based Work-Study position.  Only students with Federal Work Study are eligible to apply. If you have questions about your eligibility, please email mbrito@oberlin.edu. Students must complete the CBWSP application before beginning work.


Students in the position are responsible for:

1) helping staff and volunteers engage the public, including giving tours and helping at special community events;

2) prepare and implement educational programs;

3) conduct, compile, and document research necessary for continued historical awareness of all Oberlin people and stories;

4) maintain historical and administrative records;

5) help with new and ongoing museum projects and initiatives as needed.


OHC is interested in helping those in this position meet personal and professional interests and goals as much as feasible. Assigned duties may include:

*Give tours of OHC's historic structures and grounds

*Assist with research projects and information requests from the public

*Greet visitors and engage the public during community events

*Assist with some special events, programs, and projects

*Other duties as assigned

Volunteer: Digital Collections Summer Internship

Position Summary
The Oberlin Heritage Center (OHC) is seeking a college or graduate-level intern to assist with a multi-year collections initiative. This position will support the migration of OHC’s collection database to an online, publicly accessible platform. The intern will work closely with OHC’s Collections Manager to photograph collections objects and review and edit catalog records for public viewing.


Position Responsibilities
 Photograph collections objects such as clothing, business memorabilia, and housewares in accordance with OHC’s digital preservation guidelines
 Edit images as needed
 Review and edit catalog descriptions for public viewing on a cloud-based collections
database


Qualifications
 College level course work and/or hands-on experience in history, public history, museum collections, or archives
 Enthusiasm for digital preservation and community history
 Communicate effectively in writing and orally
 Work well independently and with other staff, interns, and volunteers
 Have a strong attention to detail and demonstrate organizational skills
 Able to climb stairs frequently due to the layout of our historic buildings
 Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, and attentiveness; commit to OHC’s Diversity,
Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion initiatives and values.


Hours and Compensation:
10 week Internship; 30 hours a week (flexibility on start and end dates)
Compensation: $13.50/hour
