Volunteer: Ninde College Access Support Specialist (Paid)

The Ninde Scholars Program is the College Access Program within the Oberlin City School District. The program serves all students at Oberlin High School, providing college access services including college tours, college application support, ACT/SAT testing sign up, financial aid application support, scholarship application distribution and filing, and other supports for students regarding the college and postsecondary option process.


The Ninde College Access Support Specialist role is to be fulfilled by Oberlin College students who have an interest in working with high school students and may have been served by a college access program in their K-12 experience. Successful candidates will be supporting administrative tasks such as data entry and collection, creating promotional materials, scheduling college tours, and other tasks to support the program.


Responsibilities:

Work with the College Access Coordinator and Education Programs Director to: Assist students with college applications Assist students with scholarship applications Create promotional materials for workshops and events Gather and input programmatic data Create slide deck templates for reporting Contact colleges/universities to request tours Other support duties as assigned


Other information

This position is designed to work at Oberlin High School for 2-3 days per week, for 2+ hours per day, between the hours of 8 am - 4 pm This position will require working with a variety of students and staff, in an environment that is prone to frequent interruptions Successful candidates will be dependable, have a customer service focus, and be able to resume tasks after frequent interruptions Desired qualifications: understanding of college application and scholarship process

This is a a paid position, but you do not need to have work study to apply for this position. Everyone is eligible. 

The Ninde Scholars Program matches Oberlin College Students to serve in a tutor/mentor relationship with scholars enrolled in grades 7-12 in the Oberlin City School District.  The program also provides college access services, including workshops, college tours and financial aid filing assistance to all Oberlin community members.  The Aspiring Ninde Scholars (grades 7-10) and Ninde Scholars (grades 11-12) are students who may potentially be the first in their family to attend college, are low-income, and may be from a group that is underrepresented in higher education.  


The Ninde Scholars Program provides each scholar with a paid and trained Oberlin College tutor, college access workshops, service opportunities, summer programming, and other college access and support services.
