Western Reserve Land Conservancy has permanently preserved over 75,000 acres in our service area, including lakefront, farmland, and other properties, some with rare and endangered species. Local land preservation is our main focus. The job entails land preservation research and field work, grant writing and assistance. In, 2017, twenty five acres of prairie were planted in Oberlin on a former farmfield now preserved and owned by the land conservancy called the Oberlin Preserve. The Oberlin Preserve is approximately 63 acres and also consists of wet woods and wetlands. On-going study, field work (removal of invasives, possible carbon sequestration testing, watering trees, etc.) and research will be ongoing. Other research projects may include: identification of priority landowners using county auditors website, geographical characteristics of the region, description of the watersheds, botanical and avian research (rare and endangered species) and compiling list of key associates in area. Other work may include letter writing; preparing displays, power point presentations and press releases; filing; mailings; data base management including data entry; special events; developing a Speakers Bureau in Lorain, Huron, and Erie Counties; writing newsletter articles.


These day to day projects, simple or somewhat involved, are critical to The Land Conservancy’s mission of conserving in perpetuity the natural resources and rural character of the land through partnerships, voluntary conservation options and education. Environmental Studies, Biology or English classes or major; some volunteer experience or other experience with non-profit organizations.


This position pays $12.50 an hour
